About Us

Mental health care that meets you where you are.

Calm Waters Counseling provides mental health counseling and behavioral health support for individuals and families in Boise and the surrounding community. We work with people facing everything from anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma to significant life circumstances that can make getting back on your feet feel overwhelming.

For some people, counseling is exactly what they need. Others need additional help outside the therapy room. That’s why Calm Waters brings counselors and behavioral health support professionals together to provide a more complete approach to care.

More Than a Counseling Office

Mental health is often connected to what's happening in the rest of your life.

It’s difficult to focus on your mental health when you’re also worried about housing, transportation, family stability, employment, or simply getting through everyday responsibilities. At Calm Waters, we recognize that those challenges don’t exist separately from your mental health.

Counseling serves as the foundation of our care. For eligible clients, we can also provide additional behavioral health services that help build practical skills, connect with community resources, and provide support between counseling appointments.

Depending on your needs and eligibility, your care may include:

  • Individual Mental Health Counseling
  • EMDR Therapy
  • Community Based Rehabilitation Services (CBRS)
  • Mental Health Case Management
  • Peer Support
  • Youth Peer Support
  • In-Home Counseling when appropriate

Instead of expecting every client to fit into the same type of treatment, we work to understand what kind of support makes sense for the person in front of us.

INSURANCE & ACCESS

Proudly Serving Medicaid & Medicare Clients

Access to mental health care matters.

Finding a mental health provider who accepts your insurance isn't always easy.

Calm Waters proudly serves Medicaid and Medicare clients, along with individuals using other accepted insurance plans. This is an important part of who we are.

Many of the people we work with are dealing with complicated circumstances and need more than a referral or a weekly appointment. For eligible clients, our broader behavioral health team can provide additional services designed to support recovery and everyday stability.

Insurance coverage, eligibility, and provider participation vary by service and counselor. Our office can help you understand your options and determine which providers and services may be available to you.

A Team Approach to Mental Health

Different needs call for different kinds of expertise.

Calm Waters is made up of licensed counselors and trained behavioral health professionals who serve different roles in a client’s care.

  • Our Counselors

Licensed mental health professionals provide assessment, psychotherapy, treatment planning, and specialized approaches such as EMDR.

  • CBRS Specialists

Help clients develop and practice skills for managing mental health symptoms and improving everyday functioning.

  • Case Managers

Help eligible clients identify and connect with community resources and services.

  • Peer Support Specialists

Bring specialized training and lived experience with mental health recovery to provide encouragement, skill building, and recovery-focused support.

These roles are different, but they can work together toward the same goal: helping clients build greater stability, independence, and well-being.

WHO WE HELP

Support across many stages of life

Calm Waters works with people across many stages of life, from adolescents through older adulthood. Clients come to us for many reasons, including:

  • Anxiety and depression
  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Grief and loss
  • Stress and overwhelming life circumstances
  • Domestic violence
  • Housing instability
  • Difficulty functioning independently
  • Family and relationship concerns
  • Significant life changes
  • Challenges managing everyday responsibilities
  • A need for additional behavioral health support

You do not need to have the right words for what you're experiencing before reaching out. Part of our job is helping you understand what support may be appropriate.

What You Can Expect From Calm Waters

Clear. Respectful. Practical.

  • We Listen First

Your circumstances, experiences, and goals are your own. We start by understanding what’s happening and what you need rather than assuming the same approach will work for everyone.

  • We Treat You With Respect

Mental health challenges and difficult life circumstances do not define a person. We want clients to feel heard, respected, and involved in decisions about their care.

  • We Focus on Practical Progress

Mental health care isn’t only about understanding why something is happening. When appropriate, we also help clients develop skills, identify resources, and take achievable steps toward greater stability.

  • We Work as a Team

When a client qualifies for multiple services, communication between members of the behavioral health team can help create a more coordinated approach to care.

  • We Make Care Easier to Navigate

Behavioral health systems and insurance requirements can be confusing. Our office can help clients understand coverage, provider availability, eligibility, and the next steps for accessing care.

LOOKING AHEAD

Building the Next Generation of Peer Support

Calm Waters is also expanding our role in Idaho's behavioral health community through Peer Support Specialist Training.

Our training program is designed for people with lived experience who want to learn how to use that experience professionally while supporting others in mental health recovery.

By training new Peer Support Specialists, we hope to strengthen access to recovery-focused behavioral health support throughout our community.
